Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.
Rumi – 13th century Persian poet
Some people love the beach. Others prefer the woods. I definitely fall into the latter category. For many years I’ve dreamed of having a house surrounded by woods. Something small but with plenty of land around it. Overlooking a pond, with long views of mountains in the distance. Furnished with big comfy chairs in front of a stone fireplace. A table made from a live edge slab of walnut. Reclaimed barn wood floors. And a screened porch to sleep in while the crickets sing.
When I was bitten by the entrepreneur bug in 2012 I looked for a way to incorporate my dream home into a business. I’d also been awed by the creativity and talent of artisans I’d seen at craft shows. They worked so hard and created such beautiful pieces, yet had little exposure. I felt they deserved to be promoted to a larger audience in a way that respected their talent.
Now, like the quote above expresses, I spend my days searching out and showcasing artisans who make handcrafted rustic chic furniture and decor. Like Ernie, who brings his Native American heritage to every piece of Western style leather and cowhide seating he builds. Tim, who carries on the iconic style that Thomas Molesworth created 100 years ago in a fresh and contemporary way. And Ken, an Adirondack craftsman who carves intricate scenes of nature and wildlife into wood doors. Through Rustic Artistry I make their amazing skills available to people who appreciate rustic chic decor, and together we customize it to create pieces that are completely unique to each customer. It’s a win for all of us!
